This is a scarab beetle and I unfortunately couldn't locate the name of the artist. What I tried to do is create the sheen of the beetles shell using the gradient tool. I chose the orange/yellow background color to contrast the purply blue in the shell and then I used the red to soften the red outline and give it unity.
This is my Avatar: The Last airbender OC. Her name is Neelah and I kept with a very simplistic black outline because thats he way the cartoon is. Also I Tried to use the Gradient tool to create shading. The only problem I had was that i couldn't figure out if there is a way to make the colors in the linear gradient fade horizontally instead of vertically.
