Lasercut

My lasercut image comes from a photograph I took in Fells Point on a day in early springtime this past year. When I walked by this fenced-in truck parking lot, the bright color scheme hit my eyes, and the large blocks of color with the touch of typography appealed to me for potential art or design inspiration. When I tried it out for the lasercut image, I saw that even without the colors, the design looked kind of abstract and interesting. I also thought that the fence, which would be left visible (white), would physically help keep together the rest of the white parts as a kind of net. For the final physical art piece I will experiment with ways to show the blue, red and white colors behind the cut-out paper.

What I struggled with in doing the lasercut in Illustrator was simply understanding the way positive and negative space would work with this image, and getting the hang of altering the live-traced image. If I had more time I might have added more detail in the sky and the truck surfaces.
