CD Project

These pictures so far are still posibilities, but my CD Project is going to be arranged in a photo album and the songs will be exploring the growth of a relationship from new found, "honeymoon stage" love to mature, deep love.

CD Project

The Title of my mix cd is Past & Future's daughter. The tracks  were inspired by a mixtape by Asher Roth called Pabst and Jazz. The content of the music was a combination of jazz and electronic music. So that's the direction I went into with my track list a songs that were constructed with actual instrument sounds and electronic contracted songs.

The packing I alter a little to be more futuristic with a SD card slit but a regular square casing. All images are photographs I took myself.
  1. Just A Little Lovin'(GB Remix) - Atlanticquity & Carmen McRae
  2. Pabst & Jazz - Asher Roth (feat. Hassani Kwess)
  3. S.DS. - Mac Miller
  4. Golden Midas - Asher Roth (feat. Boldy James)
  5. Im In It - Kanye West
  6. She Dgaf - The Internet
  7. Mushrooms  & Roses - Janelle Monae
  8. Red Dot Music - Mac Miller (feat. Action Bronson)
  9. Overthinking/ Overdosing - Honey the Hippie
  10. Dope S__-Asher Roth

CD Project

So this is my (possibly still up for change) mix-tape list. Yes, I have various duplicates of bands throughout the list, but that's only because I typically don't listen to a huge variety of music at a time; and so when I was starting this project, the artists that first popped into my head were ones I had been listening to. Now, anyone who knows me even the slightest will know that I am an extreme Panic! at the Disco fan, and I tried, very very hard not to put them in a third time. But as it goes, I feel like these songs will work out nicely for my work. My theme is kind of a mesh of all these bands in a city-like theme. So I figured songs that fit more of a dancey, even debauchery-like city feel would work best. The artwork I created reflects this, and as much as I love the city myself. I've always had this feeling of the city being the more 'corrupted' areas of civilization, and so my mix-tape is more or less a commentary on that. The tape is set up to be played from beginning to end,
This was an image I took in New York city a few years ago. This has become the basis for my front cover.
As you can see here...
Another image I took in New York, this has become part of the inside of my album.
And another image I took in New York, this has become part of the inside of my album. as well.
The inner left artwork for the album.

The inner right artwork for my album.
These images were taken at my house on a beautiful evening, with a finely adjusted aperture. These became the basis for the manipulated clouds you may see behind the also manipulated buildings that form a majority of my albums artwork.

And that's all I have done at the moment. Haven't determined how I plan to go about the last part, the back cover (I am doing a standard bi-fold).

CD project

The theme of my mixtape is rainy day songs, and is called "Stupid Sad Girl Songs". The songs I chose to put on the mix aren't necessarily songs about rain, but slower-paced, chilled-out songs that give off that melancholy rainy day vibe. Here's the track list:
In The Flowers - Animal Collective
Violent Dreams - Crystal Castles
Glass Of The Microscope - Yeasayer
Coming Down - Dum Dum Girls
Methuselah - San Fermin
Two-Headed Boy - Neutral Milk Hotel
I Need My Girl - The National
Hinnom, TX - Bon Iver
In The Cold, Cold Night - The White Stripes
Landfill - Daughter
Hannah Hunt - Vampire Weekend
Foreground - Grizzly Bear
Such Great Heights - Iron & Wine
Cape Canaveral - Conor Oberst
Casimir Pulaski Day - Sufjan Stevens

For the cover, I decided to start with a sixteenth century Dutch flower painting. I was initially attracted to the painting because they are very intricate and have many delicate details, and also have a lot of contrast between the strikingly rendered flowers and the dark backgrounds. I was influenced by really brightly colored, glitchy images and the work of artists like Kon Trubkovich and Nick Knight. For the final product, I want to have my initial image of one of the flower paintings be so distorted that there's really only a suggestion of the original image left. This is what I have so far, but I want to distort it further and bring in some more really harsh, vibrant colors. I would suggest clicking on the image because it looks way better when it's larger.

I decided to do vinyl instead of a CD because I liked the idea of having a larger space to work with, and thought that it would work to further evoke the suggestion of one of the large-scale paintings I started with. I was going to do the lettering for the title and track list by hand in Illustrator, probably in a bright color like cyan or yellow.

The paragraph below reads:
The theme behind my cover design and song choice is Digital Landscapes. All of the above songs have evoked a sense of land or cityscape for me personally or in my friends imaginations. The songs accomplish this either by lyric or change in sounds. "Spirit of Life" is the most notable example.  All the tracks included are either electronic or dubstep.

Below: More sketch ideas
This is the text I will most likely use for the cover, in the making.

These are the photographs I plan on using. The cover will be a standard bifold.

The final layout...

I only used the last photograph in the end.

CD Project

My idea behind my mixtape was growth through experiences, sadness and insecurities. I chose the title of the album to be very simple and straight forward, but I didn’t want it to be in English. I chose French because someone important to me speaks French and it interests me because of them. Croissance de l'insécurité means growth from insecurities. The songs i chose start off with a feeling of sadness and by the end of the playlist the songs have much more self confidence and happiness.

Some art that interested me:

My CD front will look something like this although I am not finished with it yet.. without the black border around it.
The inside of my Cd will have other photographs that I also took and edited in photoshop.

Originally I took photographs of my twin sister and here are some that I am going to use to make the front, back and inside.

CD Project

For this project I chose songs with the theme "waiting" and that is also what i titled my album.
I took this picture of a bench outside my apartment and I really liked it so I decided it was going to be my main image for the cover.
This is just a preliminary sketch of my cover. I'm going to use the picture of the bench i took and put it on top of the earth which I created in illustrator. I posterized the image of the bench because I want the feel of the cover to be more drawing-like rather than a photograph. I want it to look like theres paint dripping from the background and also off of the letters to go along with the theme "waiting" I'm going to use a lot of vibrant colors, especially on the cover of my album.
On the back of the cover I'm going to have all of my songs and the artists listed. I'm probably going to put some more colorful paint strokes as well. I'm not sure what I want to do for the inside cover yet.

CD Project

The theme of my CD is going to be good and bad of love. Basically showing the ups and downs that go on in a relationship. The genre for all of my songs falls under R&B but I use a wide range of artist like Adele, Lana Del Ray, and Drake each with a different style. These are the two sketches that I plan to use for the first and second page as well as the cd. I also have taken photos that I plan to turn into a collage and use as the cover and back page. My colors will consist of black and white for the entire album. I have everything planned out now I just need to put it all together.

CD project progress

I've often made mix tapes for long road trips. That lead me to choose the theme of trains, whether steam-powered trains of yesteryear or city subway trains. Trains are romantic and old-school, so my primary design idea is a mix of old-timey, decorative elements and modern, graphic looking elements.

The songs will be from a variety of genres and time periods, from Elvis Presley's "Mystery Train" to The Cramps' "Drug Train."

This will be a standard bifold. I will probably have a train represented on the outside and tracks on the inside. Here are samples of designs I've been playing with.
